New Technologies

With the COVID-19 pandemic that swept the world from around December 2019, causing the South African Government to impose a variety of hard lockdowns starting on the 27th March 2020, it has been said ”that we have created new technologies in 2 years, what it would normally have taken 10 years”.

SKIDATA South Africa were no exception to this, with the introduction of new technologies in 2020 such as “Touchless” with our “Wave” to obtain a Parking Ticket, plus our “Ticketless” License Plate Recognition (LPR) solution for access and egress to parking garages, and of course our “Cashless” Ingenico Tap & Go and Chip & Pin devices installed on the Automatic Payment Machines that accepts Credit & Debit Card payment, plus our “Scan to Pay” via a Mobile Smart Phone and the Masterpass App. We are delighting our commercial property owners and landlords with solutions that meets the current Health & Safety requirements and assisting them in their quest to increase cashless transactions as a percentage of overall revenue generation.

Further, we are introducing Parking Technology Solutions that are “cloud” based, whereby the control of the onsite solution will be virtual in the cloud. The platform is known as sweb®, which offers a variety of products such as sweb® Control, sweb® Analyze and sweb® Mobile Pay.

New Market Segments

Despite the President of South Africa placing the country into a variety of lockdowns, with all the restrictions on business and our personal social life, SKIDATA South Africa have worked relentlessly in acquiring appointments for New Facilities and orders for Modernization at Existing SKIDATA equipped sites in the past 2 years.

We won orders for 12 New Facilities in 2020 and so far this year, we have won 13 New Facilities in 2021. Included in these New Facilities were awards from not only our traditional market segments of Retail, Commercial, Hospitality (Hotels, Casinos & Convention Centres) and Health Care (Hospitals), but also from new Market Segments of Harbours (8 sites around the Western Cape Seaboard), Truck Stops (3 locations, with one being the 2nd largest Truck Stop in the world in Harrismith, Free State) Gyms (Virgin Active Vodaworld Midrand), the new MSC Cruises Durban Terminal in KZN and the largest retail centre currently being built in Gaborone, Botswana.

We have many outstanding opportunities that are being considered by the respective owners and landlords of Stadiums in various countries in Africa, plus Retail, Health, Transport, Tourism sites and Mixed-Use Facilities around South Africa, and more Harbours in the Western Cape.

Vaccination Certificate “Green Pass” Control Product

Certain global regions and countries are busy implementing Vaccination Certificate Control Points, whereby, the respective Governments have created a link between the actual citizens Vaccination Certificate and a Vaccination Certificate Control Point. We are still waiting for the South African Government to release this. A lot of interest was shown by many of the golfers and they believe that this technology will allow many industries, businesses, and locations to welcome vaccinated Citizens into a place of safety. We go about our business connections in the market completely observing the accepted safety procedures as laid down by the Government, as well as our staff getting vaccinated when their age-related time comes.

Marketing

Our Marketing Department at SKIDATA GmbH have also been very busy in creating our new digital marketing strategy where “we change the world of welcoming people”.
